The plan would also seek to make business-grade fibre services more affordable, with 240 business fibre zones across Australia to have access to Enterprise Ethernet, at significantly reduced wholesale prices.
The initiative is expected to cover more than 700,000 business premises.
NBN Co announced the location of the first 130 business fibre zones to kick off the initiative (table below). The location of the other 110 Business Fibre Zones are yet to be released.
Businesses in business fibre zones will also see price reductions in Enterprise Ethernet in order to enable the same support to regional businesses as businesses in capital city centres at the same wholesales.
In addition, NBN Co will allocate $50 million over three years to work with local councils and state and territory governments to identify opportunities to extend business-grade services outside designated business fibre zones.
The Australian Small Business and Family Enterprise Ombudsman, Kate Carnell, welcomed the three-year plan.
“1.4 million businesses across Australia are now eligible to have fibre installed to their premises at no cost,” Ms Carnell said.
“Of those — about 700,000 business in 240 business fibre zones — many of which are high streets in regional areas, are also eligible for cheaper plans.
